JOB
The Newaygo County Probate Judge is seeking a professional to fill the Deputy Probate Register/Court Recorder position.
As the job title indicates, this position performs in two different capacities.
As the Probate Register, this position performs a variety of tasks related to processing of estate, guardianship, and other probate matters.
As Court Recorder, this position is responsible for producing a record of all proceedings in the Probate Court.
Given the job responsibilities, the ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and customer service skills.
On the job training will be provided.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
DEPUTY PROBATE REGISTERReceives, records and files legal documents related to probate proceedings.
Reviews documents for accuracy and completeness and determines if further action is necessary.
Receives fees and prepares receiptsProvides information to attorneys and the public on the filing of petitions, procedural requirements, prescribed time limits and related probate matters.
Assists individuals at the counter with inquiries, filing papers and establishing new estates, guardianships and other matters.
Assists in maintaining probate case files and calendar and ensures that files are ready for court action as scheduled.
Assists with filing wills, computing inventory fees and filing fees, receipts fees, and certifies copies.
Updates daily probate activity on Judicial Information SystemsMaintains tickler system for all guardianships and conservatorships, sends notices files report and accounts, setting same for hearings when required.
Acts for the Probate Register in that individual’s absence, and is authorized to issue enforceable orders, as empowered by statute.
Prepares informational pamphlets and other materials regarding Probate Court operations and services.
COURT RECORDERMaintain the recording equipment, including the adjustment of microphones and proper channeling of audio input.
Prepare detailed, legible log notes for the preparation of a complete and accurate transcript, allowing for easy location of a specific proceeding or portion of a proceeding pursuant to MCR 8.

Ensures the completeness and quality of audio recordings and log materials of court proceedings.
Prepare and maintain a sufficient index of all proceedings recorded.
Prepare and furnish, upon request, a full transcript of proceedings by typing verbatim the audio recording of the proceeding requested in the format set forth in the MCL 600.
2510(2), within the time limits set forth by Michigan Court Rules.
Researches and evaluates legislation and court rules and implements same when called for.
