The Hughes 38 was affectionally known as a “Gentleman's Racer.
” Sporting the classic lines of a Sparkman & Stevens designed hull, built by the quality Hughes Boat Works of Ontario, Canada, she is a rugged and stable blue water sailboat, capable of withstanding almost any weather condition.
A delight to sail and easy to sail single or short-handed.
Blue Jay was one of the last hulls made in 1982, she was carefully crafted over 16 years by a master carpenter in Pentwater, MI and launched in 1994.
We have all the original designs and paperwork from her previous two owners.
Purchased in Fall 2020, clean survey from 2021.
Custom teak interior features U-shape galley with lots of fridge/freezer space and storage, pilot birth, navigation station, salon with settee that converts to single bunk, and couch that converts to full bed, fold-down table, wet head, spacious v-birth with custom chair.
Two hatches with screens provide plenty of airflow.
Many upgrades in the last 3 years including: new headsail, many new lines, new electronics, autopilot, mattress, water system, deep basin galley sink, electric macerating head, and Iceco fridge/freezer.
We had no sailing experience when we purchased Blue Jay but quickly learned to love her.
Sad to sell for health and life changes.
Slipped in White Hall, MI – will launch end of May.
