Overview:
This role is critical for accelerating sales and servicing gains and the company’s industry leading position by employing agile delivery methods to continuously adapt software and bring value to market.
The ideal candidate is a veteran direct to consumer and agency life insurance sales and servicing business engineer with product owner expertise and proven deep overall software change management leadership experience.
Responsibilities: Strategic: The individual in this role leads 4-6 subject matter expert DTC and agency life insurance business engineers applying extensive knowledge of current Gerber Life operational processes and systems along with a deep comprehension of industry regulatory guardrails for the purpose of interpreting, adapting and positioning all desired changes on Gerber Life custom platforms to go to market.
Specifically identifies and pursues opportunities to accelerate real-time policy sales and servicing capability to advance Gerber Life's industry leading position.
The business engineering team positions forward-thinking revenue and savings opportunities as life insurance solutions for delivery by peer web, software, integration and data engineering teams within the same Application Development and Solutions Delivery (ADSD) department.
This role conceptualizes, specifies, identifies, defines and prioritizes new features (product ownership).
This roles also works with peer ADSD teams to breakdown, estimate and assign tasks for delivery utilizing agile software methods (software delivery ownership) and then models and executes acceptance criteria to bring quality solutions to market (software quality control testing ownership).
The individual in this role grows the ADSD agile mindset and perpetuates the ADSD "can-do" spirit with all existing employees and contractors while selectively recruiting and hiring like-minded new engineers to do the same.
Strategic Execution: Provides hands-on direction to team members individually managing product and sprint backlogs as needed to deliver software change.
Ultimately accountable for sustaining and accelerating the delivery velocity of the entire team by effectively adapting people, process and technology to maximize value for the company within departmental and project budgets.
Supervises and performs hands-on life insurance product configuration, authors all application entry and underwriting rules and manages data to generate automated and manual correspondence using new business and underwriting (sales) and policy administration (service) custom software platforms.
Guides teams and individually performs hands-on discovery, data modeling, and process engineering to deliver value through life insurance software change.
Responsible for hiring, evaluating performance, coaching, cultivating training plans and assigning work to all direct and indirect reports to meet all new software change related work demand.
Responsible for estimating new work and supplying employee and external contractors to meet demand for software change.
Satisfies all new work demand within funding based on those work estimates.
Tactical Execution: Steers teams using all people, process and technology advantages across the company.
Ensures teams and individually adheres to all designs, policies, procedures and standards for data security and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications: Selection Criteria: Typically requires at least 15 years of agile software engineering change management experience with at least 10 years in a leadership setting with executive level reporting experience.
Typically requires 10 years of custom DTC and agency end-end life insurance software change management and large-scale public facing, direct to consumer e-commerce business process engineering.
Typically requires 7 years managing a team of business engineers utilizing agile delivery frameworks including Scrum, LeSS, Lean, XP, Kanban, FDD, BDD, API and UI test automation and supporting tools (Cucumber, JIRA, etc.
) for quality control.
Must have the ability to simplify large-scale system change related needs to minimize total cost of ownership (ensuing overhead).
Must have an agile mindset and insatiable passion for innovation, agile delivery methods and continuous integration.
Must be an autonomous team player able to lead effectively while solidifying working relationships at all levels of the organization.
Work Setting: This position works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
Position requires substantial movement of wrist, hands and fingers for continuous computer work.
